To test the performance of iPage’s servers, we set up a WordPress website using the default Twenty Seventeen theme and filled it with dummy content for theme development, including images. That way our test site would behave like an actual average WordPress site.
According to our Pingdom’s website speed test, our site loaded in less than 3 seconds and was faster than 60% of the websites tested. Just like the speed test, it’s important to analyze whether your hosting service can survive a traffic surge.
For our traffic surge test, we used a popular testing tool, Load Impact, and sent some virtual users (VU) to our site. They gradually built up to 100 visitors at a time to see how the server would handle it.
In the chart below, you can find blue (VUs active) and green lines (VU load time) which represent the number of virtual visitors sent to the testing site and the time it took to load the web page for the respective number of users on the site.
From our test, it’s evident that iPage server can perform without any trouble regardless of the number of visitors present on the site. As you can see, our test site became a bit slow when there were about 50 users on the site. After that, it remained stable even though the number of users kept increasing.
It’s also important to note that no downtime was recorded during our hosting performance test. It remained stable and responsive.
Without a doubt, images account for most of the downloadable bytes. Meaning, publishing too many images on a page can significantly impact your page’s loading time.

SLEEZY BILLING PRACTICES: They charge you for a renewal well in advance of your annual expiration date. In addition, if you look at your account and billing info, it tells you your expiration date but says nothing about their policy of charging you 15 days in advance, which they trot out when you notice a middle of the night email saying you’ve been charged and call them to cancel and get a refund. Can’t be any more deceptive than that! Even worse, they charged me before the 15 days! This is a very common complaint on other, neutral review sites. It’s time to get a class action against this fraud!
