Custom Excerpt Length

Snippets by IsItWP

Do you want to set the custom length for your post excerpt rather than the default 55 character limit? While there’s probably a plugin for this, we have created a quick code snippet that you can use to custom excerpt length in WordPress.

  1. Add this code to your theme’s functions.php file or in a site-specific plugin.
  2. Optionally change the number of words allowed in the excerpt on line 2. Currently it’s set to 100.
function excerptLength($length) {
	return 100;
add_filter('excerpt_length', 'excerptLength');

Note: If this is your first time adding code snippets in WordPress, then please refer to our guide on how to properly add code snippets in WordPress, so you don’t accidentally break your site.
