How to Add a Custom Class to the_tags in WordPress

Snippets by IsItWP

Are you looking for a way to add a custom class to links output by the_tags() template tag? While there’s probably a plugin for this, we have created a quick code snippet that you can use to add a custom class to the_tags() in WordPress.

The function the_tags() is used to display a link to the tags a post belongs to. This snippet will add a custom class to links displayed by the_tags() template tag.

Instructions:

All you have to do is add this code to your theme’s functions.php file or in a site-specific plugin:

function add_class_the_tags($html){
    $postid = get_the_ID();
    $html = str_replace('<a','<a class="wpsnipp"',$html);
    return $html;
}
add_filter('the_tags','add_class_the_tags',10,1);

Note: If this is your first time adding code snippets in WordPress, then please refer to our guide on how to properly add code snippets in WordPress, so you don’t accidentally break your site.
