I’m new to GreenGeeks but not to shared web hosting. I’ll admit that I had a tad more difficulty getting my WordPress site up and running because the GG setup required a few extra changes to some settings that I wasn’t accustomed to. BUT, as a result, I ended up contacting their online support quite a bit.
So, I feel like I have a lot of experience with the speed and quality of their support and I would highly recommend them. They always responded immediately and solved every issue I had. Compared to other hosting services I’ve used, I would say their support is way better. As someone who doesn’t have a lot of experience or knowledge with the ‘backend’ side of website hosting and setup, their cPanel interface is basically the same as other services but their support is way better.
Overall, I definitely recommend.
Awesome that GreenGeeks is so energy friendly, but my experience is less than stellar. I am not familiar with WordPress, Drupal or Joomla, which is what they push for their website development platform. I had called in advance to subscribing and asked how difficult WordPress is to learn. The service rep told me it’s a great program and requires a mild learning curve. Well, I spent 6 hours trying to learn it to create my civic, informational only website. No blogging needed. What a nightmare and waste of time. So I switched to Drupal and then tried Joomla. GreenGeeks could not offer me any support with the three platforms. You’re on your own. So I cancelled after two days of my multi year subscription that was paid in full. I need something more user friendly and with a provider that has some in-cling about their platform. GreenGeeks contacts me asking to give them another try and suggested their drag and drop site builder, which nobody had mentioned prior. I had not had a chance to try it out and a day later they e-mailed confirming my cancellation request, but they’re withholding $15 for a registration fee. Keep in mind I paid in full and already had a domain through Melbourne IT. Green Geeks quotes a stipulation in their terms and conditions, which you can find online and I forwarded to their billing department asking them to clarify where it states the $15 to be withheld. I don’t see it. Several hours later and no reply. Time will tell if they do. If they don’t credit the $15 then I’ll file a complaint with my credit card company and get all my money back. There are a few posts online about people experiencing the same when asking for a trial period refund.
If you are a WordPress, Drupal or Joomla pro, then GreenGeeks would be great for you. If you’re a pro with these and want a blogging website, then GreenGeeks would be fine for you. If you’re not familiar with these platforms, don’t expect anyone at GreenGreeks to help you. They’re clueless and their reps admitted they get quite a few calls about people frustrated with WordPress. I called a few times and yes, their customer service is friendly and very easy to get through to and they all speak fluent English. There are other much more user friendly website hosts and interfaces you can consider. Of course, beware of GreenGeeks sneaky billing practices if you cancel during your trial period. Stand your ground!
