How to Add Support for SVG Inside WordPress Media Uploader

Snippets by IsItWP

Are you looking for a way to add support for uploading SVG files in WordPress? While there’s probably a plugin for this, we have created a quick code snippet that you can use to add support for SVG inside WordPress media uploader.

It’s important to consider the risk when uploading SVG files because they’re XML files. Keep the security in mind and don’t allow just anyone to upload SVG files. You can also use the Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) plugin for an even simpler solution.

Instructions:

All you have to do is add this code to your theme’s functions.php file or in a site-specific plugin:

function wps_mime_types( $mimes ){
    $mimes['svg'] = 'image/svg+xml';
    return $mimes;
}
add_filter( 'upload_mimes', 'wps_mime_types' );

Note: If this is your first time adding code snippets in WordPress, then please refer to our guide on how to properly add code snippets in WordPress, so you don’t accidentally break your site.
