  1. I was happy with Site 5 until they were purchased a couple years ago. Service and support were not that great for the first 2 years but they were so cheap, I put up with it. But now, the servers go down at least once a month, they no longer have a phone number so all support is through chat or online tickets. The chat support sessions are a solid hour of idiots that have no idea what they are doing and eventually just fill out a support ticket for follow up by another support admin. The support tickets are usually 24 hours before I get a response and can take a week to resolve. My VPS has gone down every single day for the last 3 weeks. I can’t get the files off of the server because it is down so frequently. I’ve had site 5 just randomly change MX records from local host to remote host – without permission. It is a real nightmare. I’ve lost clients over their incompetence an down time. I don’t usually take the time to share online reviews, but Site 5 is so terrible, I feel a responsibility to warn others – it is really, really, really terrible hosting.

  2. Everything has been transferred to another hosting server, and to siteground, and since has been working fine. Least to say, site5 is a horrible hosting site. It took siteground less than 24 hours to fix what site5 tried to fix within 6 days. I had been using IXWebhosting for over 15 years, and everything was working fine, until IX had to close down. I was informed that IX would transfer all our sites to site5, but this is not by choice. Five of our sites took over 5 days to remedy to find out from both helpdesk ticket agents, and live chat individuals, that they were not able to fix the problem, until at day 6, I decided, enough is enough, I will change all my business to siteground. The live chat were not able to fix the nameservers, and their client login, would not allow you to change your own nameservers, until you contacted them to unlock your accounts. We were out of business (literally) for 6 days until someone within their ‘senior technicians’ were able to fix the problem, which was because after the migration, the .htaccess was incorrectly pointed. It should not take any company over 72 hours to fix this problem, least to mention over 6 days. We are entirely not happy with site5, and have since changed our business to SiteGround, and perhaps you should also consider this when looking for a hosting client. Also, because they do not have a refund policy, I am now stuck with over $300 worth of money with site5, which means that I would need to at least have all my domains renewed with them, even if I were not to use their hosting servers, because they would not give me a refund due to this was being transferred by IX Webhosting.

    Although I was notified IX webhosting was sold to Site5, there was no notification when migration would be. After migration from ixwebhosting my site and my email were down. This was from March 2 to March 6. I could only chat. Some spammer started sending thousands of emails using my email immediately after migration. #ZXR-914-65276 ticket on spam since March 7th. For weeks a different “expert” replied “change your password” which I was doing sometimes more than once a day. Did not ever address any part of the issue, only took 2 weeks to confirm there was an issue. The response was “I am referring this ticket to our abuse team to check further”, then silence from March 19th to March 30th. (Same issue got nowhere previously on chat – since March 6th until the ticket was opened.) I also had a dedicated IP and free SSL before, but not after, migration to Site5. I have since moved to another web host and the spam stopped.

  4. Site 5 is an absolutely disgraceful company.
    On taking over IXwebhosting, they botched the migration to their servers, then tried to charge me a lot for something that was already covered by my terms of service at IXwebhosting.
    They said that everything would be just fine if I paid the extra amount (almost doubling the price of the contract with the previous host). Effectively, they tried to force me to pay extra by holding me hostage through keeping my websites inaccessible.
    When I said that I was unhappy with both the service and the extras they wanted to put on billing, just a day after the migration, and because of that had contracted another hosting service, they refused to give me a refund.

    If you’re with them get away. If you aren’t stay away.

    They’ve gone down the tubes. They’re expensive, their service stinks and they will rob you blind.

  5. Site5 sold out to EIG. The servers now have constant outages and are very slow. Technical support is totally non existent. You won’t get an answer from them until you push them on twitter. Then you will get an apology and no useful answers to your ticket.

    I have many many sites on site5. I’m pulling them all. Don’t say you were not warned. Do not host with site 5.

  6. I’ve used Site5 for over 2 years now. It was a nice, cozy little company but recently was acquired by another company. I have three accounts. One by one, each has been migrated to another server and performance is OK but there are some issues with BackUpBuddy that cause a simple migration to take over 24 hrs with their back end support to fix. The horrible part of this is their current support service which is practically non-existent. Phones are never answered. Chat took me over an hour to determine that the agent could not understand what I was asking no matter how many times I repeated…3 to 5 minutes between responses. A support ticket that was created some how got lost and a new ticket is not being responded to now…. at all.

    I think they’re migrating their ticket system and perhaps their phones and chat too? Hoping for a reason for this all to be happening with what was once a very nice company to work with.

  7. Site 5 has really fast servers. Some of the fastest that I’ve ever worked with as a web designer, and I was really excited when I began using them. However, that doesn’t make up for the copious problems in dealing with them. The company is very heavy handed and consistently interferes with the operation of peoples’ accounts. Here are the issues that drove me away from ever wanting to use them ever again, and why I tell my clients to stay away:

    – When I first signed up, I called them to tell them my usage would be higher as I was getting all my sites moved over, which requires some bandwidth. Nonetheless they sent me a punitive sounding usage warning email, threatening to suspend my account – within 48 hours of becoming a customer.
    – In that same first 48 hours, their servers were down for 36 of them.
    – They have really sensitive IP blacklisting filters. This means that your own IP address will frequently get blacklisted and you will be locked out of your accounts, and it will take 30 minutes to restore access every time this happens (4-5 times a month on average, for me.)
    – This will especially happen if you try to access your sites or your account when traveling in different states (I’m not even talking about abroad, here). Then your account will get flagged for fraudulent activity.
    – You’ll have constant password problems because Site5 requires you to have several sets of them, which you use for different applications, and which they can’t keep straight. You’ll be asked for your passwords every time you have to contact support to get your IP un-blacklisted, and they’ll tell you you don’t have the right one when you do so they don’t have to help you. They won’t even look at your emails until you email them your password. I’m pretty sure that passwords in email have been proven to be a huge problem, and most companies advise you NOT to do this (Phishing scams, anyone?)
    – They have a large support staff, who will send you lots of emails with smiley faces in them, but that means no one ever takes charge of anything and your issues will rarely be resolved, because they are always passing the buck to someone else, and the buck never lands anywhere. It will take 2 or 3 attempts with customer service each time you need something, like getting your IP address un-blacklisted.
    – God forbid you ever want to change your billing plan. I spent a month and about 10 hours with different departments trying to change my billing plan, and they made me set up a second account (rather than change my existing account) then refused to move the files between the two accounts, all while charging me for both.
    – When you quit using them, because of these issues above, and cancel your service, they will continue to bill you every month. Every month you will tell them that you cancelled the account, and every month they will continue to bill you.
    – The words “cease and desist” mean nothing to them, and they will continue to harass you.

    In short, Site5 has a huge bureaucracy that causes many problems with your account and then refuses to solve them, and even sends you condescending, pedantic sounding emails about it all, adding insult to injury. Fast servers are not worth the smiley-face condescending email and lockout nightmares you will endure.

  8. I’ve been with site5 for over 5 years and have never had a problem with them. Customer service is top notch and always willing to help you resolve the problem as quickly as possible. And best of all, they are always there.

I have now been with Site5 for 4 years and yes they have down time (as most everyone done at one point or another) they are always there when you send in a tech question/request and work hard to get things working if something does go wrong. I had a client who updated his site and from the changes they made the site was hacked and overwritten, Site5 restore request had the site back to what it was a day before in about 20 minutes. My client was so very happy it was restored so quickly… I say if your looking for a great hosting company, Site5 is for you.

  10. I have been with Site5 for over 5 years now. They have the odd down time or problem like all hosts, but they are always handled professionally and quickly. Their community forum is great as well. I have always found questions to my coding questions there, either from Site5 staff or other customers. For the price, the guys would be my first choice.

They not only want to see your issue resolved, but they take the time to inform you how they fixed it, this allows me to learn what went on, and how to resolve it if it happens again. Not many companies include small touches like that, and you even get a Bio on the support technician helping you.
